A decade of JavaScript evenings in Bengaluru — framework deep dives, engineering practice, and now the AI-era of web development. Open to everyone, from first-timers to staff engineers.
What the group has covered since the first session in February 2016 — a condensed history, not an exhaustive list.
The first meetup, in February 2016, asked where JavaScript had come from and where it was going. Early years were framework years: AngularJS and Angular workshops, Node.js, Ember.js, functional programming, WebAssembly and browser extensions — hands-on evenings hosted at engineering offices across Bengaluru.
The group moved into engineering-practice territory: web performance (including the Hotstar web player), security talks and workshops, AngularJS-to-Angular upgrades, React Native, testing frameworks, a Node.js game backend, and a first AI/ML session in early 2019.
When in-person gatherings stopped, the meetup went online — 27 of its events in this stretch were remote, and reach grew: a Web Performance Bootcamp drew 753 attendees, the largest crowd the group has seen. Workshops covered performance, security (an XSS game), mock interviews and CI/CD.
A quieter, more focused period: full-stack testing and GitOps workshops, web accessibility, security games, web components, microfrontends and mock API practice.
Generative AI moved to the centre. A 2024 session on GenAI for developers drew 302; Build with AI at Google’s Bengaluru office brought 577. Since then: LLM fine-tuning, Copilot and AI-augmented TDD, agentic AI, a six-part From Arrays to Tensors series on LLMs from first principles, plus Svelte, microfrontends and Roku’s streaming engineering.
